Rain Water Storage

Collecting rain water is very important. I use a 300 gallon water storage tank for collecting rain water from my house gutters. It is a major water saver. A 300 gallon water tank can be expensive to buy new at around $300 to $500. I purchased mine used for $75 each. Used water tanks can be purchased from classified ads, online classified ads, craigslist, or some garden centers. If you are not the type to buy used water tanks, the tanks can be purchased from many different hardware stores or horse/cattle stores. For smaller tanks that are designed for garden use, the tanks can be found at some garden nurseries and some hardware stores. I don't recommend a 300 gallon tank for everyone, but if you have a medium to large garden area a 300+ gallon water tank would be needed. For small flower garden areas (around 15' x 5 ') a 100 gallon tank would work fine.
For all of my gardening flowers and plants I use rain water collected from my storage tanks. I currently have two 300 gallon water tanks. I plan to buy a couple more for my flower garden, as my tanks tend to fill up quickly during a heavy rain. I live in the desert southwest and I collect as much rain water as I can. Many cities have restrictions on water use. The city I live in restricts garden watering to 2 times a week during summer and has limits to what times gardens can be watered. Since I use rain water, the city I live in allows me to water when and how often I like. This is because my water collection is 100% from rain water.
